Obituary of Jean A. Stoker


Jean A. Stoker, 86, of Little York, NY, passed away on December 5, 2022 in the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

She was born June 1, 1936, in Cortland, NY, daughter of the late Richard and Eleanore Pickens Anderson.

She graduated from Homer Central School in 1954 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1958. She completed her Master’s Degree in education from SUNY Cortland in1969.

Jean was a teacher for thirty years at F.E. Smith school in the Cortland City School District. Also, she was an adjunct instructor in the Department of Education at SUNY Cortland for eighteen years.

Jean dearly loved her family and shared fond memories of times spent at family gatherings and celebrations. She truly appreciated the beauty of the Preble Valley as the seasons changed each year.

She was an active member of the Preble Congregational Church, a previous member of Delta Kappa Gamma, CARTA, NYS Retired Teachers Association and the Little York Garden Club.

Jean enjoyed reading, her flower beds, dancing, trips to Florida, cruises, watching SU basketball games and collecting glass baskets. Her extended family, church family and five special friends from high school-Gail, Gwen, Gini, Cynthia and Nancy brought her great enjoyment.

Jean is survived by her son, Dale (Brenda) Stoker of Canandaigua; and daughter, Tacie (Roland) Anderson of Skaneateles; two grandsons, Dale (Mary) Stoker of San Luis Obispo, CA and Brett (Ashley) Stoker of Bozeman, MT; her great grandson, Bechler Stoker of Bozeman, MT; Paul Albro, her beloved companion for 28 years; two sisters-in- law, Barbara Crandall and Donna Anderson; and many wonderful and caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in May 1962; her son, A. Charles Stoker in November 1982; and her siblings and their spouses; sister, Marilyn (Norman) Lansing; brothers, John Anderson and Robert (Mary Ellen) Anderson.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Preble Congregational Church, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Preble Congregational Church Endowment Fund, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble, NY 13141.
