James N. Horton, age 83 of Dryden, NY passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at home surrounded by family.
Born August 18, 1939 in Warsaw, NY he was the son of the late Edward and Peryl Conrad Horton. Jim was an apprentice carpenter at Cornell University from 1960 – 1964. In 1964 he became a Journeyman. Following his employment with Cornell, he started his own business, Horton Construction. He built 43 houses over his lifetime, all but two in the Dryden/Freeville area. Jim at one time was very active in the Jaycees, he loved to play the guitar, loved the outdoors, especially gardening and playing golf. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and was always involved with his kids and grandkids sports. He loved his beagles and until recently could be seen every day walking one down the village streets. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Parish.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julie; his children, David (Barbara) Horton of Manchester, NY, Jeffrey Horton of Dryden and Valerie Willson of Brooktondale; grandchildren, Ashton, Rachel, Joshua, Andrew, Brittney and Matthew Horton, Kara Vormwald and Zackary Willson; great grandchildren, Autumn and Jayden Horton; siblings, Margaret (David) Korytkowski, Edward Horton Jr. and Donald (Karen) Horton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Laurie Ann Horton and grandson, Nicholas Horton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Holy Cross Church, 375 George Rd., Freeville, NY with Fr. Jorge Ramirez as celebrant. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY. Calling hours will be held from 4-6 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
