James. G. Brown, 80, of DeRuyter NY, passed away November 14, 2016 at the Cayuga Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 18, 1936 in Cortland NY, the son of the late James C. and Irene Gardner Brown.
Jim was raised locally graduating from McGraw High School. He then went on to The Hill School and graduated from LeHigh University. Jim was the proprietor/president of the Vesta Corset Co. He was active locally serving on the Cortland Co. Board of Health, Dime Savings Bank board, Greek Peak Board of Directors and volunteered with their ski patrol for over forty years, Cortland Exchange Club, DeRuyter Lake Assoc., and the Skate Creek Club, and Cortland Country Club. He enjoyed spending winters in Utah where he loved to ski, along with traveling to Europe and the railways. His summers were spent on DeRuyter Lake along with boating on the St. Lawrence River.
He is survived by his son Greg (Stacy) Brown, his daughter Amy (Randy Spagg) Robinson, grandchildren Erica (Cody) Pinney, Emily Brown, Zachary Whitcher, Christopher and Matthew Brown.
In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by his wife Meredith Deyo Brown.
A celebration of Jims’ life will be held this Saturday 1-5 pm at the Community Restaurant, Main St., Cortland.
