Obituary of Helen Mathews
Helen Mathews, 74, passed away December 10, 2024. Helen was the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Bondarenko) Cincotta and lived in the Cortland, NY area all of her life, most recently in Marathon, NY. Helen worked for many years for St. Anthony’s parish in Cortland, NY and in later years, she worked for Sheridan’s Jewelry, Little York Plantation and then St. Stephen’s/St. Patrick’s parishes in Marathon/Whitney Point. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and dear friends, and she enjoyed traveling and taking trips with various senior groups in the region.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, by her loving husband Clyde Mathews, her daughter Vera Catherine Mathews, and Missy-Dog.
She was known as Aunt Helen to many and as Aunt Nan to her family. She is survived by her cousins Steven (Debbie) Ossit and their children, Christopher, Mariah and Ryan, Kevin (Sheila) Ossit and their children Zachary, Nathaniel, and Margaret, all from Cortland, her longtime friend and “sister”, Ann Marie (Roy) Bonyak Towner of Liverpool, her Godson, John (Jaime) Towner and their children, Aaron, Micah, Luke, Ethan, and Ellie, all of Rochester, NY. Helen leaves behind close friends Joy (Mike) Magee of Homer, NY, Onna Jean (Tim) Votra and their son Alexander of Marathon, NY. Helen also leaves behind several Godchildren and extended family in Florida.
Helen waited a long time to be reunited with Clyde and Vera, and we are confident she is with them and is finally at peace.
A service to remember Helen will be held at a later date.
