Frank A. Buerkle, 94, of Cortland, NY passed away with his family at his side on January 5, 2023 after a brief illness. Born August 19, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, Frank was the son of Francis A. Buerkle and Anna (Leefers) Buerkle.
Frank was a resident of Cortland for the last 32 years of his life, having moved to Cortland from Blairstown, NJ upon his retirement from General Electric in 1991. Frank was employed for 35 years in manufacturing, manufacturing management, technical sales, and sales management positions for General Electric Co. in Parsippany, NJ.
Frank was always active in his community. He was a member of the McGraw Lions Club, serving as President in 2012. He was also active in the New Jersey Jaycees for several years, serving as state Vice President in 1962 – 1963. Frank was also active in the Passaic County, NJ and Wayne Township, NJ communities for many years, serving on various town and county boards, and on several political campaigns.
He is survived by his sister, Marjolaine (Buerkle) DeAngelis, 99, of Tucson, AZ; his daughter, Janet L. (Buerkle) Powers of Emerald Isle, NC; his sons, Robert J. Buerkle (Christine) of Cortland, and Daniel J. Buerkle (Cindy) of McGraw; his granddaughters, Katrina Powers, Laura (Buerkle) Sobocinski, and Loretta Buerkle; his grandsons, Tyson Buerkle, Alan Powers, Wyatt Buerkle, and Wayne Buerkle; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife Leona (Nibbling) Buerkle of Cortland, NY in 2019, and his brother Warren Buerkle of Clifton, NJ.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 12 noon, from the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y. with Rev. Dennis Walker, officiating. The Buerkle family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m.-12 pm., just prior to the start of services in the funeral home chapel. The Rite of committal and burial delayed until spring, will be in McGraw Cemetery.
