Obituary of Esther L. Fabrizio

Esther L. Fabrizio, 98, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2019 at home with her daughter and son-in-law.

Esther will be remembered by her family and friends as one who was devoted to the care of others, without a thought for her own needs, always with a smile, never with a complaint. She spent many years in the Cortland School System serving meals to generations of schoolchildren. She lived her life with the generosity, grace, and kindness that we all aspire to.

Esther was a very active person, enjoying water skiing, downhill skiing, and her life-long passion, golf. She enjoyed playing golf with her many friends in three different golf leagues until she was 92. She loved spending the summers at their cottage on DeRuyter Lake, where the extended family came to share sports, meals, and each others’ company. As her grandson grew, she found joy in family visits and newfound joy in sharing time with her great-grandchildren.

Esther is survived by her daughter Carol, her son-in-law Jim, her grandson Patrick (Michelle), and two beautiful great-grandchildren Aidan and Tamsin. She is predeceased by her husband Henry and her sister-in-law Bella. Esther was a long-time member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, September 26th, 4:00-6:00 PM at the Riccardi Funeral Home, 69 N. Main St., Cortland, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church on Friday, September 27th at 10:30 AM. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the church following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice House of Shiawassee County in honor of the remarkable in-home hospice care that Esther and her family received from Heartland Hospice. Donations can be mailed to Hospice House at 2005 E. Copas Rd., Owosso, MI 48867 or made online at
