Devoted Wife, Loving Mother, Adoring Grandmother, Cherished Friend
Mrs. Elaine M. Morenus passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Cayuga Medical Center in the loving presence of her family.
Elaine was born in Cortland, NY on August 18, 1947, the only child of the late Peter and Elvira (Capaldo) Padavona.
She lived her entire life in Cortland except for a brief period when she joined her husband while he was in the service in Fort Lewis, Wash. They enjoyed 56 loving years of marriage together.
Elaine treasured time spent with her family and friends. Her three sons were blessed with an amazing mother and her grandchildren were lucky to spend lots of time with her. She was a dedicated caregiver
for her father, mother, aunts, uncles, and cousin. She was extremely compassionate and loving, often putting others before herself. Her family was everything to her.
Elaine was a graduate of Cortland High School, Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Empire State College. She began her career at IBM Glendale, continued in McLean at Patchwork and Pies, spent time at the New York Propane Gas Association, and was then owner at Home Necessities.
She had many diverse interests and talents. Elaine was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, and crafter. And, with a keen sense of home decoration and improvement, you could also find her tackling plumbing, painting, electrical, and drywall jobs around the house. Everyone loved to eat at Elaine’s house as she was a phenomenal cook. When she wasn’t doing any of those things, you’d probably find her
reading a book.
Elaine will be missed every day, but her memory lives on in her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those who loved her. No one can forget Elaine’s radiant smile and engaging personality.
Surviving Elaine are her husband, Peter; and her three sons, Peter Jr. (Jennifer), Matthew (Teresa) and Andrew (Anita). She also leaves four grandchildren, Caesar, Lucius, Peter III and Grace, along with
cherished friends and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. from the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, 69 N. Main St., Cortland. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The beach was always Elaine’s happy place, and she will spend eternity in the arms of her Savior with sunshine, sand, and warm gentle waves.
The family sends special thanks to the staff of the intensive care unit and the 4th floor North and South units at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. Arrangements are uner the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland N.Y.
We do accept Obits to be included from other Funeral Homes at No-Charge.
