Obituary of Eileen G. O’Donnell


Eileen G. O’Donnell, 86, of Walden Place, Cortland, NY, passed away on October 17, 2019 in Guthrie Cortland Misty Glen Rehabilitation Center, Cortland, N.Y. Born November 2, 1932 in Brooklyn, Eileen was the daughter of Edward and Helen McArdle Sharpe.

She was formerly employed at AT&T in Manhattan and then a stay-at-home mother in Valley Stream, NY. In 1968 she and her family relocated to a farm in Cincinnatus, NY for 14 years. Eileen and family then moved to Cortland, where she has resided for 37 years. She was employed at SUNY Cortland as the Interlibrary Loan Librarian for many years until her retirement in 1992.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a former member of The Catholic Daughters of America, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Women’s Republican Club, The Cortland County Senior Citizens Club and The Cortland Country Music Park. She also volunteered for many years at Catholic Charities and elected officials’ offices.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Edwin O’Donnell; two daughters, Janine Williams of Palm Harbor, FL, and Kathleen (Jody) Button of Melbourne, FL; three sons, Richard (Trish) Williams of Farmingville, NY, Timothy (Gail) Williams of Panama City Beach, FL, and Donald Williams of Syracuse, NY; one brother, Edward Sharpe of West Babylon, NY; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Richard Williams; a granddaughter, Ashley McCubbins; and a great granddaughter, Jaylin Mataya.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland, N.Y. Condolences may also be sent to the family by visiting
