David M. McCloy, 75, of McCloy Road, Cortland NY, passed away on October 19, 2023.
A lifelong resident of the Cortland area, David was born on April 15, 1948, the son of the late Abraham McCloy, Sr. and Bernice Satterley McCloy. David was a career tool and die maker, working for 30 years at Smith Corona. He then founded D&M Machining which he operated for the remainder of his life.
David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was happiest sharing his passions of hunting and running heavy equipment with his grandsons. He enjoyed bragging about his granddaughters accomplishments. From a young age, David enjoyed his ‘toys’, motorcycles, and Corvettes to name a few. He also loved working on the family farm. He was a hard-working family man, an avid outdoorsman, and someone who was devoted to his family and friends.
Surviving are his four children, Jeffery A. (Mary) DeMann of Covington, GA; David A. ‘Skip’ (Katrina) McCloy of Cortland, NY; Kimberly J. (Scott) Slater of Groton, NY; and Samantha A. (Barry) Fralick of Marathon, NY. Grandchildren, Rachel L. (Tyler) Munn, Ryan B. DeMann, Morgan E. (Seth) Gustafson, Michael P. McCloy, Barry J. Fralick, Alyssa J. Slater, and Elizabeth J. McCloy. His two sisters, Catherine (John) Murdock of Cortland, NY, and Della (Herman) Ericksen of Norwich, NY as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Joan C. Sayman McCloy in 1993; his brother Abraham ‘Jr.’ McCloy, and two sisters, Mary Moore and Beverly Powell.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, NY with funeral services held at 1:30 pm.
Interment in Camptown Cemetery, Camptown, PA will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in Mr. McCloy’s name may be directed to any of the FFA Chapters at Homer, Groton, or Marathon School Districts.
