David A. Jacques, 78, of Cortland passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Monday March 16, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Born March 31, 1941 in Victory Mills, NY, David was the son of Leo and Marjorie Hopkins Jacques and was a Cortland resident for all of his life. David retired in July 2002 after 36 years of service from NYSEG as a gas fitter. He was a lifetime member of the Homer Fire Dept, Hook & Ladder Co. where he served as treasurer.
David was a quiet, practical, and patient man who cherished time with his family and grandchildren. Whether conducting repairs around the house or pursuing his former side job doing body work for a garage, he loved to work with his hands. He will be remembered for his encyclopedic knowledge and love of classic cars, from the hotrods of his youth to his lifelong fandom of NASCAR. His timely sense of humor and playful grin will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole Albro Jacques, and two daughters; Lisa Jacques (Linda Parsons) of Los Angeles, CA, and Susan (Nicholas) Pizzola of Cortland; two grandchildren, Alexandria and Lukas Pizzola; a brother-in-law, Leonard Hammond; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Hammond.
A Mass of Christian Burial was privately held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church for the family. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY. Contributions in David’s memory may be made to the Homer Fire Department. Condolences may also be sent to the family by visiting www.riccardifuneralhome.com.
