Obituary of Catherine A. Haight


Catherine “Cathie” Lynn Anthony Haight, 76, of Cortland, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 after a long battle with Cancer at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

Catherine was born in Cortland, NY to Richard Seitz Anthony and Ethelyn Prentice Anthony on July 8, 1947. She graduated Cortland Sr. High School in 1965 and graduated from Powelson Business Institute. She worked as a Secretary for SUNY Cortland for 42 ½ years ending in the Dept. of Finance & Management. She enjoyed reading mysteries, romance novels and other various books along with cooking many things including her famous jam, ham & lasagna recipes. She created many beautiful knitted, crocheted, needle point items and other various crafts. She enjoyed watching sports including the Mets and NY Giants and she was an avid collector of many, many stuffed animals. In retirement, she enjoyed breakfast with the SUNY Cortland retirees and vacationing to Mets spring training with her family as well as visiting friends. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland and the CSEA Union. During her children’s school years, she was involved with various groups related to school and was a past PTO co-president.

Cathie is survived by her Husband of almost 51 years, Bill, of Cortland, NY. Sons, Andrew and Scott. Brother, Theodore Anthony of Silver Springs, MD. Nieces Christy Anthony (Greg Goldstein) and Kelly Anthony. Sister-in-Law, Sally Fegley, Neice Jean Leiker (Bill) and Nephew John Fegley. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Ethelyn.

Calling hours and funeral service will be held at Wright-Beard Funeral Home on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11am-1pm for visitation with the funeral at 1pm being officiated by Reverend Doug Hatch of the Marathon Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Cortland Rural Cemetery, 110 Tompkins Street. Wright-Beard Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cortland SPCA and the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the exceptional caring staff at the Upstate Cancer Center and her other doctors/support staff. The family also thanks all of Cathie’s extended family, friends and co-workers for all of their generosity, support and caring during her illness as it meant a lot to her and the family.
