Blanche A. Zurbruegg, 93, of Marathon, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Marathon, NY, on April 9, 1922, Mrs. Zurbruegg was the daughter of the late George L. and Clara Alexander Carrigan. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1940 graduate of Marathon Central School. For many years, she worked along side her late husband, Albert, on the family farm where she was affectionately known as the “milk lady” when she delivered milk throughout the area. She was a member of the Marathon American Legion Auxiliary Post #617; the Owego VFW; and the Marathon Sr. Center. An avid bingo player, she enjoyed crewel and embroidery.
She is survived by her children, Louise (Ward) Fox of Cincinnatus; Blondie (David) Solowiej of Willet; Kandee Reynolds of Marathon; Alberta Zurbrueeg of Marathon; and Kenneth Zurbruegg of South America. She also leaves behind her brother, George A. Carrigan, of Newark Valley; a son-in-law, Harry Hartman of Marathon; and a former son-in-law, Robert Prentice of Whitney Point; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, in 1986; a daughter, Glendalee Prentice Hartman, in 2006; a son-in-law, Thomas Reynolds in 2008; a sister-in-law, Rosa Carrigan in 2007; and her father-in-law, Emil Zurbruegg.
Funeral services will be held at the A.C. Baker & Son Funeral Home, Marathon, NY, on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Boice officiating. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Zurbruegg may be directed to the Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC), P.O.
