Ann Veronica Stack, 97, of 3 York St., Cortland, N.Y. passed away on Friday September 8, 2023. She was born on September 16, 1925 in the family home at 3 York St. Cortland, N.Y.
She was the daughter of Michael Joseph Stack (Born in County Limerick, Ireland) and Julia Mary Kelly Stack, (Born in Queens County, (now County Laois,) Ireland.) Ann graduated in 1943 from St. Mary’s High School and attended Cortland Business School. She worked for a number of years at Smith-Corona and for 25 years at S.U.N.Y. Cortland.
She is survived by her sister; Noreen (Stack) Rigopoulos of Cortland, five nephews; Michael Stack, Christopher Wolpert, Patrick John Wolpert, Mark Rigopoulos, and Paul Rigopoulos.. three nieces; Maureen (Stack) Hartley, Kelly (Stack) Sprouse and Margaret (Rigopoulos) Wenzlaff; three great nephews; Carl Wolpert, James Wenzlaff and Patrick Wenzlaff., four great nieces; Julia Wolpert, Rachel (Stack) Russell, Emily Stack and Mary Katherine Sprouse. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Patrick Stack and John Stack and her sisters; Mary Stack and Katherine Stack Wolpert.
Ann (Annie to the multitude who loved her) is best described as sweet, gentle, generous and loving sister and aunt. Her two big hobbies were “shopping” (especially for her adored nieces) and traveling the world. Of course, number one on her travel list, as evidenced by her multiple visits there, was exploring the family’s deep roots in Ireland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 6th at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Walker serving as celebrant. The Christian Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in Ann’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Parochial School 61 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y. 13045
