Alta Muriel Barker Eggleston, 97, of McGraw, NY, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the Cortland Park Rehab & Nursing Center, Cortland, NY.
Mrs. Eggleston was born in Orwell, NY on September 14, 1918, a daughter of the late Rollo and Alta Hilton Barker. A longtime resident of McGraw, she was a devoted Christian and member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she worked at several places in the area, including Smith-Corona, Cortland Corset, Highgate Nursing Facility, and Cortland Home Care. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. For several years, she would spend her winters in Arkansas and her summers in New York. In her spare time, she enjoyed many past times including, cooking, gardening, sewing, and reading, but most important to her was her home and family whom she loved and cherished.
She is survived by her children, Jeanne (John Tom) Clifton of Benton, AR, Bonnie (Kenneth) Henry of McGraw, and Joseph (Kathy) Eggleston of McGraw. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Holmberg, of Marathon; a sister-in-law, Violet Barker of Canandaigua; a cousin, Dessa (Bill) Bergen, of Skaneateles; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Clark Eggleston; a daughter, Karen Elizabeth Eggleston; a sister, Cora Fitch; brothers, Herbert, Clarence, Roy, and Ronald Barker; and twin grandchildren, Karen and Kenneth Henry II.
Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 12:00 noon with her pastor, Reverend James Hundley, officiating. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
