A 24-year State Police veteran is being honored after losing his life to an illness he acquired while working at Ground Zero.

Sergeant/SC Jeffrey M. Cicora was assigned to New York City immediately following the September 11 terrorist attacks to help with search and recovery efforts.

He served with the State Police for 24 years and retired in May of 2017 due to his illness, which he ultimately passed away from on Saturday (August 10).

He’s a native of Auburn and lived in Baldwinsville, working in Troop D his entire career.

State Police Superintendent Keith Corlett made the announcement of Cicora’s line-of-duty death on the agency’s Facebook page.

Sergeant/SC Cicora is survived by his wife and their son.

Details on funeral arrangements are expected to follow.
