NYSEG has warned customers about a recent spike in scam reports, alerting them to be vigilant of any suspicious calls they may receive.
The newest ploy involves a caller who poses as a company representative and explains that an overcharge was made to the potential victim’s account, offering them a future bill credit once further information is shared.
Others have complained of calls threatening to cut service unless an immediate payment is made over the phone.
Anyone with questions about their account should call the number that’s on their bill and never give out personal information to unknown callers.
