NYSDOT Begins Design Phase For I81 Rehabilitation Project Between Polkville and Broome County Line
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) says they have begun the design phase of their rehabilitation project for both north and southbound lanes of Interstate 81 from the Broome County line to Exit 50 (Old Exit 10) in Polkville. The rehabilitation project will include upgrades to the median barriers and guardrails where needed along I81 in addition to the repaving of the highway.
The NYSDOT said in a letter that the objectives of the project is to improve the highway’s ride-ability and address pavement cracking. Major construction work on I81 is expected to begin in the Spring of 2027 with an anticipated completion date of 2028.
In a statement previously given to X101 News, Public Information Officer for Region 3 of the NYSDOT, TeNesha Murphy, said NYSDOT crews will continue to perform maintenance as needed in areas of the highway until then.
