Wednesday it was announced New York State will receive $100 million in federal funding from the US Department of Treasury through the American Rescue Plan.

The money is the largest targeted investment in affordable housing internet connectivity in the nation. It’s estimated the funding will allow the state to link 100,000 homes and families to affordable, high-speed internet across New York. The investment from the Fed comes from the $10 billion in the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Projects Fund. It’s an endeavor meant to address challenges increased by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in rural America, Tribal communities and low- and moderate-income communities.

Wednesday’s investment for New York comes soon after federal funding secured in the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law, which included a record $65 billion for expanding high-speed internet in communities across the country.
