NYS Senator Peter Oberacker Announces Candidacy For NY-19

New York State Senator Peter Oberacker (SD-51) announced his candidacy for New York’s 19th Congressional District on Monday morning, October 6th. The 19th Congressional District is currently represented by Democrat Josh Riley. Oberacker will run on the Republican ticket.

Oberacker announced his candidacy in a video titled “Soil.” Oberacker’s office says the video is a personal journey of his life from working in his family’s meat market to building a successful business, which he would bring back to New York State. The video highlights that those in the 19th Congressional District are all “rooted in the same soil.”

“This campaign is about where we come from and where we’re going,” said Oberacker. “I grew up working beside my father in our family’s market, learning the value of hard work, faith, and responsibility. Those lessons have guided me as a business owner, a firefighter, and a public servant. They’ll guide me in Congress as well.”

New York’s 19th Congressional District covers all of Tompkins County, Broome, Chenango, Otsego, Delaware, Green, Sullivan, and Columbia Counties. It also includes a portion of Ulster, Rensselaer, and Cortland Counties. Including in Cortland County the towns/villages of Solon, Taylor, Virgil, Marathon, Harford, and Willet.

“The greatest title I’ll ever hold isn’t Senator or Congressman, it’s Pop-Pop,” Oberacker says. “I’m running because I want my grandchildren, and yours, to have the same opportunities we had. To live in safe communities, to stay here in upstate New York, and to pursue the American Dream right here in our own soil.”

Oberacker has additionally begun a district-wide tour and plans to hold events and visits throughout the 19th Congressional District for the remainder of this week. He is a life-long resident of Otsego County.
