Preliminary numbers released by the New York State Department of Labor indicate a decrease in the number of available private sector jobs in April last month.
While private sector job numbers went up nationally by 0.2% in the same time frame, New York saw a decrease of 0.3%, the equivalent of over 25,000 jobs. The state’s private sector jobs over the year did see a 2.4% increase, which is still lower than the 2.6% increase in United States private sector jobs.
Additionally, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.1% in March to 4% last month, increasing the state’s labor force by over 16,000 individuals.
