This week, Governor Kathy Hochul continued to focus on the $1 billion investment being made in the state’s mental health care system via the Mental Health Care Plan.
The Plan was passed in the 2024 Budget. It targets several aspects of the mental health care system including expansion of outpatient services, boosting of psychiatric treatment capacity, and development of thousands of units of housing for those with mental illness. $30 million will also go toward increasing mental health services for children in school throughout the state.
In a statement Hochul called the endeavor a historic shift to reverse years of neglect in the system.
