NYS Health Department Confirms West Nile Virus In Upstate NY

The New York State Department of Health has confirmed the first three three human cases of West Nile Virus outside of New York City in Nassau, Westchester and Monroe counties.

Monroe County (Rochester) is so far the only upstate county with confirmed cases of West Nile.

ThereĀ are now a combined total of seven human cases of the virus in New York State in 2018.

West Nile Virus was first identified in New York State in 1999. Since 2000, 497 human cases and 37 deaths of West Nile have been reported statewide.

There is no threat to our immediate area at this time, but the Department of Health urges all residents to take personal protective measures to avoid mosquito bites whenever possible.
