NYS Federation of Lake Associations Holds 5th Annual CNY Regional Conference at Dwyer Memorial Park

The New York State Federation of Lake Associations (NYSFOLA) held their 5th annual Central New York Regional Conference on Friday, September 12th at Dwyer Memorial Park. The conference was a full day of events which brought various lake association volunteers, environmental professionals, researchers, and government representatives to share information and strategies on protecting freshwater ecosystems.

“This conference is a celebration of the people and partnerships that protect our lakes,” said Tarki Heath, President of the Kettle Lakes Association, Vice President of NYSFOLA, and lead organizer of the event. “We’re proud to bring together such a diverse group of experts and community members who are committed to safeguarding the waters that sustain us.”

According to the NYSFOLA, the conference featured presentations on aquatic plant ecology, wetland permitting, septic system regulation, and harmful algal bloom prevention. The conference also had attendees take part in hands-on water sample analysis, invasive species identification workshops, and guided boat tours of Little York Lake.

The New York State Federation of Lake Associations was founded back in 1983 as a not-for-profit coalition of lake associations, individuals, and corporate members. Their mission is to protect and restore New York lakes. You can learn more about the organization HERE.
