NYS DMV Reminds of Road Safety During Bicycle Safety Month in May

Whether driving, biking, or walking, the State Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding citizens to use the road responsibly with May being Bicycle Safety Month.

Bicycles are considered one of the most vulnerable forms of transportation, and there are steps motor vehicle drivers can take to protect bicyclists as well as themselves. That includes checking blind spots, giving bicyclists room when you drive, and to be aware bicyclists near or in front of you can react to road hazards with sudden changes of speed, direction or lane position.

There are also rules for bicyclists to observe when it comes to the road, such as riding in a bike lane if available, never ride on a sidewalk if prohibited by local laws, and never travel with more than two side-by-side in a single lane.
