The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is reminding New Yorkers of the free tax filing options available to them online at Tax.NY.Gov. Those who qualify can file federal and state income tax returns for free.
To be eligible for the free service you must:
Federal adjusted gross income (AGI) for 2022 was $41k or less, regardless of your age.
If you are 57 years of age or older with a federal adjusted gross income of $60k or less
Your federal adjusted gross income was $73k or less and you served as Active Duty Military (including a Reservist and or a member of the National Guard)
“Many New Yorkers are eligible to electronically prepare and file their taxes online using brand-name software through Free File,” said New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller. “As the April 18 tax filing deadline approaches, we encourage eligible taxpayers to take advantage of this free software to quickly and easily e-file their tax returns.”
To avoid being charged a fee, you must access the Free File through the NYS Tax Department’s website to complete your return.
