New York State’s Clean Slate Act has drawn support from power company National Grid.

The business joins companies like Verizon, Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase and the Business Council of New York in backing the measure. The Clean Slate Act would address obstacles to jobs and housing posed by old conviction records. By removing those barriers and sealing records, the goal is to ultimately expand the workforce and boost the economy.

Clean Slate would allow people to access housing, education and most jobs, with the exception of law enforcement and work with vulnerable populations. Similar measures have drawn bipartisan support in other states.
