There will be 800 athletes and coaches visiting Ithaca beginning today through tomorrow, Saturday for the New York State Special Olympics Summer Games.
“Special Olympics New York is proud to have found a way to offer all of its State Summer Games opportunities for athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans despite air quality concerns,” said President & CEO Stacey Hengsterman.
Tonight will commence the opening ceremonies at Ithaca College from 7 to 8:15pm at the A&E Center. Tomorrow will mark game day with the first events beginning at 9am at Ithaca High School and at Ithaca College.
The games will close at 7pm Saturday evening at the Campus Center at Ithaca College followed by a dance party.
Special Olympics New York is the largest state chapter in the country, serving more than 42,000 athletes across New York with year-round sports training, athletic competition, and health screenings. More information may be found HERE.
