NY Senator Webb’s Celebrates National School Lunch With Celebration of Universal Free School Meals

New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) is marking National School Lunch Week with celebrations with the state’s launch of universal free school meals for all students. The program began at the start of this year with 2.7 million students across the state having access to breakfast and lunch every school day.

“I’m honored to celebrate National School Lunch Week by recognizing the launch of universal free school meals in New York,” said Senator Webb. “Access to healthy, nutritious meals should never be a barrier for our students. I’m proud that New York is now the ninth state to provide universal free school meals. This is a meaningful step toward equity and supporting the well-being of students and families across the state.”

According to the Senator, the program has also supported local economies, brought resources into schools, and made cafeteria operations more efficient. Webb added families are still encouraged to provide their household income information to help school districts secure additional funding and benefits.
