NY Senator Webb Joins Press Conference Urging NYSEG Customers to Participate in Upcoming Public Hearings on Rate Increases
New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) joined Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (AD-123) in calling for NYSEG customers to participate in the upcoming public hearings regarding NYSEG’s proposed rate increases for both electricity and natural gas services. NYSEG is proposing a double-digit rate increase of 35% for electricity customers and 39.4% for natural gas customers. NYSEG requires approval from the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) for the increases.
“I urge ratepayers to make their voices heard during the public comment period,” said Senator Lea Webb. “This is an important opportunity for the public to voice their concerns on the record to make sure the PSC understands the effect that any further increase would have on their livelihoods. Families and small businesses across Upstate New York are struggling to pay high utility bills and cannot afford another double-digit rate hike. I will continue to fight for measures to cut costs for residents and instill greater oversight in the rate setting process.”
NYSEG made their official request with the PSC back in June of this year for the increases. If approved, they would take effect on May 1st, 2026. Upcoming public hearings scheduled for the proposed rate increases include in-person locations and virtual. Information on each hearing can be found below.
