NY Senator Webb Asks Public Service Commission to Release Report on NYSEG Investigation

New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) is asking the Public Service Commission (PSC) to release a formal resolution and a plan from their investigation on NYSEG for widespread billing issues. The investigation was launched back in 2022 by the PSC after a major rise in complaints from customers of the utility company.

According to the PSC, complaints ranged from incorrect bills or bills being sent very late. In 2022, the number of complaints soared to over 4,700, 60% higher than the previous two years combined. The commission held numerous hearings throughout NYSEG’s service area.

“The public is still waiting for the PSC to release a formal resolution to their investigation into NYSEG’s billing issues. I am calling on the PSC to release their report and inform the public of their plan to address these ongoing and widespread issues with NYSEG’s billing. Ratepayers deserve to know what is going on with the high bills we are seeing. My office continues to hear from constituents weekly who reach out to express their frustration with rising utility prices, ongoing billing issues, and a lack of transparency when it comes to how those rates are determined.”

Said Senator Webb.

Senator Webb began a survey back in January of this year asking constituents about their experience(s) with NYSEG. The senator says her office received thousands of responses throughout the 52nd Senate District. Information collected reported the same issues of skyrocketing prices, billing issues, and ongoing customer service challenges.

That survey found 95% of respondents said their utility bills have increased, 74% reporting they are moderately, significantly, or very significantly impacted financially by their utility bills, and 81% say they have reached out for assistance with their bill or other issues and were dissatisfied with the constituent service they received.
