NY Senator Webb Announces Cortland County Awarded Over $1.2 Million in State Funding Towards Next Generation 9-1-1 Infrastructure Upgrades
New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) has announced $4.4 million dollars in funding from the state that will go towards supporting next generation 9-1-1 infrastructure upgrades in the three counties of the 52nd Senate District of New York.
“In rural communities like ours, it is imperative that our first responders have modern and robust emergency response and communication systems,” said Senator Lea Webb. “These funds will ensure that local dispatchers have the technology to keep our communities safe.
Cortland County was awarded $1,266,796 in state funding. Funding will go to county-level primary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), Webb says, and primary backup centers in each of the three counties of Cortland, Broome, and Tompkins. The grant funding will help prepare for the implementation of Next Generation 911 (NG911).
Broome County was awarded $1,639,396 and Tompkins County was awarded $1,515,197.
According to Webb, the NG911 Grant Program supports upgrades in call handling equipment to include interfaces and software applications needed for agencies to meet the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) i3 standards.
