NY gyms, fitness centers can reopen under strict rules

Local News

Beginning Monday of next week (August 24), gyms and fitness centers across New York can reopen at one-third of their maximum capacity and with other strict protocols in place.

Everyone inside these facilities must wear a mask at all times, including both employees and those working out.

Whether or not indoor group classes can run has been left up to municipalities, which also have a September 2 deadline to allow gyms ito reopen – Governor Cuomo said these decisions will be made locally.

Before any establishment can reopen, it must first pass inspection by the local health department before or within two weeks of its anticipated restart date.

Bowling alleys were permitted to reopen starting yesterday at half capacity, with masks and social distancing also required at all times.

No decision has yet been made on when movie theatres in the state can resume limited operations.

However, Crown City Cinemas in Cortland has begun private showings by appointment only.
