NY Governor Announces Over $6 Million In Bridge & Culvert Funding For Cortland County; Part of $484 Million Plan
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced on July 11th that 137 local governments had been awarded nearly $484 million in enhanced assistance to replace and upgrade bridges and culverts across the state.
The Central New York region alone has been allotted $37.5 million in funding. $6.378 million of that money is headed to Cortland County to replace three bridges: the Pine Hill Road bridge over Hunts Creek, the Hoxie Gorge Road bridge over Hoxie Creek, and the Cold Brook Road culvert carrying Cold Brook Creek.
“As New York continues to experience the effects of climate change firsthand, we need to make critical infrastructure upgrades so our communities can withstand the extreme weather to come,” Governor Hochul said. “Working closely with local governments, we are investing millions to harden more than 200 bridges and culverts across the State, enhancing public safety and making these structures ready for whatever mother nature can throw at us.”
The funding builds upon the $1.23 billion allotted under the BRIDGE NY initiative, which is included in the historic $33 billion capital plan adopted in 2022. A significant amount of support comes from the federal Bridge Formula Program, which supports 216 individual projects across the state. BRIDGE NY backs projects that reduce the risk of flooding, improve the integrity of these structures, as well as facilitate economic competitiveness and benefit the environment.
