Update 10/20 11:00am: The DOT has delayed the closure again. The closure will now take place from Sunday, October 22nd at 7am to Wednesday, October 25th at 7am.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYDOT) will close the Route 281 bridge over Interstate 81 beginning at 7pm today, Friday October 20th through 6am Monday, October 23rd. The closure is needed to facilitate bridge repairs.
Detour signs will be in place for motorists. For those traveling southbound on Route 281, the DOT says to take I81 north to Tully (Exit 14) and proceed to I81 Southbound until the Preble exit (Exit 13).
Traffic headed northbound in Route 281 who would require going over the bridge must get on I81 North in Homer (Exit 12). Motorists will then use the Preble exit (Exit 13) to continue north on Route 281.
The closure was originally planned for last weekend, but was delayed due to poor weather conditions.
