As part of the 2023 State of the State address, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced major changes to New York’s child care system.
The endeavor includes plans to expand access to the system and provide assistance to families, workers and businesses to support the child care infrastructure. Despite a $7 billion state investment in childcare last year, child care uptake remains low. That’s why the Empire State is now seeking to make it easier for families to access eligible financial assistance, provide support for the childcare workforce, and engage the business community in new ways to aid families.
“While we have made major investments to boost childcare funding, there are still too many families unable to access these resources. That is why we are taking critical steps to improve the process of finding child care, widen program eligibility, and support our child care workforce.” said Gov. Hochul.
