The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton has issued a Flood Watch for the Central New York, Finger Lake, and Southern Tier Regions until 5am Monday morning. The NWS says flash flooding is possible today and tonight from excessive rainfall expected. Localized rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches in a couple of hours.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.”

Showers and thunderstorms are expected today and will be slow-moving, the NWS says. The slow-moving storms will lead to heavy rainfall and instances of flash flooding. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds possible.
