Nothing Official Yet For Former Parker School – Developers Have Shown Interest
During Tuesday’s Common Council meeting, Cortland Mayor Scott Steve provided an update on the former Parker Elementary and the status on any future development of the property. In the discussion portion towards the end of the meeting, it was noted that the city didn’t receive any proposals from the Request for Proposals for the property when issued this past February.
However, Mayor Steve noted that 2 developers have expressed interest in developing the property with one local agency interested as well. He added nothing has been officially submitted and the details of what the two developers would have in mind for the former school were not disclosed.
Alderperson Katy Silliman asked Mayor Steve if any formal offers for the property come up if the Parker School Committee would be involved in the review process, to which Mayor Steve said they certainly would. Steve also added residents would also expect a community input meeting for any proposed projects.
Parker School has sat vacant since the Cortland Enlarged City School District elected to close the school, along with Virgil Elementary back in 2018 with the schools closing in summer of 2019. The City of Cortland has owned Parker School since December 2021.
