Nominations Being Accepted For SUNY Cortland’s Institute For Civic Engagement Leadership in Engagement Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for SUNY Cortland’s Institute for Civic Engagement’s Leadership and Engagement Awards. All nominations are due by Friday March 8th and may be a person or organization from SUNY Cortland or the Greater Cortland Area.

The Institute for Civic Engagement says someone may be nominated for either Civic Engagement Award or a Leadership in Democracy Award. The awardees will be announced on March 19th and the awards reception will be held on April 18th at Park Center’s Hall of Fame Room.

The organization says self-nominations are accepted and people are free to nominate more than one person or organization for one of the recognitions.

Considerations for the Civic Engagement Award include: initiative in organizing and conducting a project that helps improve the quality of life in Cortland County, effectiveness in the project, and length of time involved in such a project.

For considerations in the Leader in Democracy Engagement Awards, the person/organization must show exceptional contributions similar to the Civic Engagement Award, but also include a collaboration with a form of government. Examples include: Creating a civic engagement organization or project, raising donations of funds or items for specific causes, strengthening community cohesiveness, researching and using community safety ideas, volunteering with a government agency’s grant-funded project to improve quality of life, addressing a cause of, or a contributing factor to, hunger or homelessness, and more.

A nomination form can be found HERE. The Institute for Civic Engagement says the form should take about 15 minutes to complete. Anyone with questions is asked to contact John Suarez at SUNY Cortland via email, John.Suarez@Cortland.edu.
