Last week, people who swam in Owasco Lake south of Deauville Beach reported rashes to the Cayuga County Health Department.
A week later, the rash doesn’t appear to be linked to blue-green algae, or to a common parasite blamed for what’s known as swimmer’s itch.
The Health Department sent more samples for lab testing yesterday.
The advice now? Health experts suggest that after you are in the water, dry off with a towel and change out of your suit as soon as you can.
And don’t swim in water that is discolored or has floating scum.
