A two-alarm fire inside a condominium building in the Arcadia Village near Greek Peak Ski Resort in Virgil last night drew crews from at least ten different responding departments.

The call came in just before 8:30 p.m.

Department after department were dispatched to the scene and there were originally reported to be people trapped inside.

Thankfully, there were ultimately no occupants in the burning apartment at the time, although all neighboring apartments were immediately evacuated.

Crews worked diligently for several hours, cutting their way into the roof and releasing pressure in the building until they could extinguish the main blaze on the second floor.

Among the responders were crews from Virgil, Cortland, Cortlandville, Dryden, Harford, Homer, Marathon, McGraw and McLean.

County and State Fire Investigators were also called in, as well as the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, the American Red Cross and several other volunteer responders.

At this point, there are limited details in terms of a cause but the fire is still under investigation.

X101’s Vincente Bellardini and Mike Eves were both at the scene broadcasting live on Facebook. That video can still be seen on our Facebook page.
