No Injuries After Penske Truck Smashes into NYSDOT Vehicles on I81 in Lisle – Driver Ticketed

Just before noon back on Monday, October 28th, State Police at Binghamton along with the State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to I81 North in the Town of Lisle for a vehicle accident involving two New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Vehicles.

An investigation by State Police found the driver of a yellow Penske Truck, 36 year old Muhammed A. Wesley of Phoenix, AZ, was traveling northbound on the highway when he failed to observe a work zone area on the right side of the highway.

Wesley struck two NYSDOT vehicles and continued off road into an embankment. State Police say there were no injuries as a result of the crash and no workers were inside either vehicles. The two vehicles that were hit were an attenuator and a small dump truck. The attenuator vehicle had a dash camera which caught the entire crash. You can find the video on the NYSDOT’s Facebook page.

Wesley was ticketed after the crash. The NYSDOT had “Mowing Ahead” signage along with active amber lighting on their vehicles while they were out mowing and picking up trash along the highway.

State Police remind all motorists to obey New York State’s MOVE-OVER laws which state all motorists must use due care to avoid all vehicles stopped on the roadway. Motorists should be aware of traffic around them and move over if safe to do so and slow down.
