Nicholas Renzi Passes Away – Donated Millions to Cortland Memorial Foundation
The man who helped make the creation of the Renzi Cancer Center at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and the Cortland Renzi Health Campus in Cortland by providing major donations to the Cortland Memorial Foundation, Nicholas Renzi, passed away on February 26th. Renzi was 93 years old.
“Nicholas Renzi’s generosity and commitment to the Cortland community and beyond will leave a lasting legacy. His transformative donations to Cortland Memorial Foundation in support of Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, reflect his profound dedication to improving health care access and outcomes for his neighbors. A former business leader and trusted advocate for our region, Mr. Renzi will be remembered not only for his contributions but for his impactful vision for a healthier future.”
Said Dr. Edmund Sabanegh, President, CEO, The Guthrie Clinic.
Mr. Renzi donated $1 million dollars to the Cortland Memorial Foundation during fundraising for the new Cancer Center Guthrie was constructing next to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Renzi made the donation to honor his late wife, Agnes Renzi. The facility was named to recognize his significant contribution towards the project.
“Nick Renzi’s heart was filled with generosity, and our hearts are now full of the blessings his charitable efforts have left behind for so many patients in need. His donations were intentional. He was not only charitable, but he was philanthropic. He not only gave of his treasures, but he also gave of his time and talent. He was engaged with the work we were doing. He asked questions. Yes, he gave financial support, but it was his hope that others would follow his lead and be inspired to give too, that mattered most.”
Said Sheila Ossit, Director, Cortland Memorial Foundation.
Mr. Renzi would make another significant contribution of $1 million dollars towards the foundation while encouraging others to also make donations towards the construction of a new health campus. His pledge of a million dollars was matched by another million in donations by the Cortland Memorial Foundation. Guthrie honored Renzi again with his charitable contribution and passion to see the Cortland area have easily accessible health care services without needing to leave the Cortland area, by naming the new facility the Cortland Renzi Health Campus.
“Nicholas Renzi cared deeply about his community, and he understood the need for safe, quality health care for years to come. While he likely cared little about his name prominently displayed on the Renzi Cancer Center or the Guthrie Cortland Renzi Health Campus, it means a great deal to us. Every day, the Renzi name will serve as a reminder to our teams of the compassionate care our patients deserve.”
Said Jen Yartym, President, Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
Services will be held on Friday, March 7th at 11am at St. Mary’s Church. You can find his full obituary below:
