Last Friday afternoon, Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputies say they spotted a car with no inspection on Muckey Road in Virgil.
Officers say Michael Bellefleur, 24, of McGraw was driving and they found he had a loaded firearm in the vehicle, some marijuana, and a suspended driver’s license.
Bellefleur was ticketed and released, to return to Town of Virgil Court on June 7.
Tree Falls, Firefighters Reopen Road
Early Friday morning Truxton firefighters made quick work of a large tree that fell and blocked Cheningo Solon Pond road.
A neighbor spotted the tree at daybreak.
The quick work of firefighters for meant the tree was removed, likely before most drivers were even awake.
Encouraging News On Unemployment
New York led the way as part of a nationwide drop in first-time claims for unemployment the week of May 14.

Grease To Go
A new collection station at the Tompkins County Recycling & Solid Waste Center.
It now takes the fats, oils and grease (FOG) left over from prepared foods.
The county says it is part of the newly redesigned food scraps drop spot.
Because of this new collection, cooking oils and grease can stay out of the water supply and will be processed into biodiesel fuel.
The center is on Commercial Ave in Ithaca.
