New York’s STAR Program To Help 3 Million NYers w/ $2.3 Billion in Relief
Governor Kathy Hochul announced ongoing efforts to provide $2.3 billion in tax relief to over three million New Yorkers.
The State’s School Tax Relief Program (STAR) provides tax relief to New York homeowners and seniors throughout the state. The amount of each benefit depends primarily on income level. For homeowners with $500,000 or less in income, STAR benefits are worth a few hundred dollars. For seniors age 65 or older with incomes less than $98,700, those benefits often exceed $1,000.
“Back-to-school season is also tax relief season for millions of New Yorkers,” said Hochul. “From tax credits to child care assistance to summer food benefits, we’re continuing to put more money back in the pockets of working New Yorkers to address the cost of living and help families across our state.”
The first STAR digital portal launched earlier this year, allowing New Yorkers to receive their credits by direct deposit, rather than a paper check. Sign-ups are still available for Long Island residents and will be available in the following weeks. All STAR credit recipients can use the digital portal to sign up for next year’s payments as well.
