New York state saw the number of covid-19 hospitalizations surpass 5,000 for the first time since last March (2020). The new record number of hospitalizations has been attributed to the new variant, omicron.
According to the state health department data, the number of people hospitalized increased 28% since last week, from 4,328 to 5,526. Governor Kathy Hochul said Monday (Dec. 27), “The rise in hospitalizations has not coincided with a dramatic increase in Covid-related deaths.”
