Jack Eves: [00:00:00] X 1 0 1, Always Classic Jack here in the studio, joining me once again is Public Information Officer for the New York State Police Troop C, Trooper Aga Tinker. Trooper Tinker, always great to see you and happy New Year, to you.
Trooper Tinker: Happy New Year and hope everyone’s staying safe out there.
Jack Eves: Yes, it’s definitely been a cold winter hasn’t it?
Trooper Tinker: Can we get to summer? I know that once summer comes along, people are gonna complain. It’s too hot, but this cold is bone chilling. I’m done with it.
Jack Eves: There’s only so much you can do in the cold, and thankfully January is. Already over and we’re looking at the upcoming weekend and it’s Super Bowl weekend.
And with the Super Bowl, obviously a lot of people are gonna be having watch parties. Maybe they’re gonna be going out to a restaurant or a bar to watch the big game. And of course, state police are gonna be out and about for their stop. DWBI. I believe beginning on Friday the sixth, is that correct?
Trooper Tinker: Correct. Yep. We’re starting February 6th through the end of the weekend. DWI crackdown for Super Bowl Sunday, so there will be troopers out [00:01:00] making sure that, everyone is getting home safely and no one is out there driving in a risky type of behavior. And one of those risky behaviors is driving while impaired, whether it’s under drugs or alcohol.
Jack Eves: And you know, especially with that, if people are planning to go out, the best thing they can do from making the best chicken wing dip is also to make sure everyone has a safe and sober ride home.
Trooper Tinker: Yeah. our goal at this point is education and, and then from that, we are looking to prevent.
Any kind of tragedies, any kind of tragic accidents and, we’re looking for impaired drivers that may be leaving any of those parties or those there bars that may, endanger the other motoring public that’s out there trying to get home and, have a good time.
Jack Eves: You mentioned before we went on air, thankfully last year during this SAT campaign, there were no fatal crashes.
Trooper Tinker: Yeah. it’s always a, a plus, [00:02:00] that no one has to go through that, whether it be the police agency that Responds to it or, or the worst, the family who, who knows that person. So we’re, we’re always very happy to, to report when there are no fatal crashes. and we also had very few, accidents involves injuries, so we just wanna make sure that everyone’s.
Aware and, and, and if it’s bad weather, take your time getting to wherever you need to go. But, as we joked around, be the real big MVP of the party. Yes. And make sure that everyone who’s driving is, is not impaired. Or, and if they are, give them another driver. Give them a place to stay.
Call, a taxi service or Uber or something
Jack Eves: obviously state police, they’ll have that increase in road patrol. of both marked and unmarked vehicles. I know, state police will also probably have some sobriety checkpoints popped up. So it’s not, don’t test your luck on trying to get home, especially if you’re gonna be drinking out.
Trooper Tinker: Yeah. And we’ll be working with, with other agencies too, of course. So not just us. [00:03:00] Every agency, wants to make sure that everyone is safe this holiday. So Yes. there’ll be people that are looking for any kind of reckless behavior. like we said, there might be some, some checkpoints, but there’s also things just patrols that are out looking for behavior that is typical of someone that may be driving recklessly.
We wanna make sure that we have increased patrols out there that are looking for people that are making, poor decisions, by being impaired and reckless and putting everybody in danger. So make sure that if you do plan to go out and make the choice to plan. And be responsible and make sure that everyone is celebrating safely.
Jack Eves: Yeah, celebrating safely. And you know, thankfully too, these days, there’s so many safe ways to get home too. you have Uber, you have Lyft, you’re a local cab company, even a third party, person that can be your sober driver. I know, sheriff’s office always mentions the, have a plan app too that can help connect you to getting [00:04:00] home safely.
Trooper Tinker: Yeah, absolutely. And, and check on your friends too. if you. If you’re not sure how, if your friend got home, send ’em a quick message. Just make sure they’ve got home okay. Or have them call you and let them know that they got home safely when they get there.
Jack Eves: Perfect. Trooper Tinker, always appreciate you coming in to speak with us again.
The Stop DWI campaign begins February 6th through Super Bowl Sunday. That’s February 8th. Trooper Tinker. It’s always great talking to you.
Trooper Tinker: Always great being here and And you taking the time to listen.
Jack Eves: Yes. And go. Patriots. For X 1 0 1, I’m Jack Eves.
