New York DEC and State Parks Encourage Less Screen-Time – Promotes Fish & Wildlife Day
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) encouraged citizens to get outdoors by participating in Fish and Wildlife Day events.
Coinciding with National Hunting and Fishing Day, Fish & Wildlife Day will be on September 28th. Fishing, hunting, cooking, and even taxidermy demonstrations will happen across the state, where people will also learn to plant native flora, remove invasives and learn how to build a bird or bat house that will benefit the species. The day is encouraged to end with a nature walk where new appreciate the importance of wildlife conservation.
“New York’s abundant and peerless natural resources draw millions of visitors to the outdoors every year, requiring continued efforts to protect and preserve wildlife habitats,” said Sean Mahar, DEC Interim Commissioner. “The stewardship opportunities during Love Our New York Lands Fish and Wildlife Day bolster our efforts to protect State lands and sites and are perfect for groups or individuals seeking to give back to nature and the special places they love.”
Registration is open now on the New York Parks & Trails website. You can visit them at ptny.org for information about events near you.
