You may have seen the new trash and recycling bins throughout the City of Cortland over the past week as the city finished delivering the new bins to city residents who did not opt out of the City of Cortland’s new trash and recycling program, which replaced the blue bag system the city had for a number of years.

The city’s new trash collection began on January 2nd of 2023. The city has provided two totes, one for trash and one for recyclables. The city also asks residents to place totes by 5pm on the day before trash collection and/or before 7am on the day of collection.

The City of Cortland has worked to ensure any questions may have been answered through the cities FAQ page on the city website. Those questions can be found HERE.

Overall, the city states the new trash collection will allow a more efficient pick-up and a more reasonable cost that will be spread throughout the city. The new system will also reduce truck traffic.
