For the first time ever, beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will now be able to buy their their groceries online, thanks to a two-year pilot program launched yesterday (April 18) by the USDA.

Officials point out this will be particularly handy for home bound seniors and others who may experience inconvenience trying to get to the grocery store.

Amazon and Walmart are already on board and participating, with others set to join early next week.

SNAP participants will be able to use their benefits to purchase eligible food items, but will not be able to use SNAP benefits to pay for service or delivery charges.
