New Refundable Farm Employer Overtime Tax Credit Applications Now Available in NY
Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday the opening of applications for overtime tax credits, part of a plan to help farmers get reimbursed by the Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF).
Eligible farm employers may apply now for overtime they paid out since the beginning of the year. The Farm Employer Overtime Credit is a refundable tax credit based on the phase-in of New York’s overtime threshold. Applications submitted to the Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) determine advanced payment based on the amount of overtime paid between January 1st, 2024 and the date of the application.
“Supporting New York’s farmers and farmworkers, who are essential to keeping New York State running, is a key priority for my administration,” Governor Hochul said. “I encourage all eligible farm businesses to learn more about this program and apply for reimbursement so that we can reduce their tax burden while helping them to continue supporting their hardworking staff.”
Applications must be submitted by September 30th. AGM will approve certificates to each approved farm employer. With this certificate in hand, the employer’s owners or partners may request their share of payment individually from the DTF.
